MV Assassins
AKA Spoon Tag

HEY, we're in the news! http://tinyurl.com/spoontag

Wait...what IS Spoon Tag?

For all you out there who have never played, Spoon Tag is a school-wide game open to ALL CURRENT Monta Vista students.

Spoon Tag is a long-term event, lasting a month or two in some cases, where each player holds a spoon that guarantees their safety. Each person is both predator and prey and if they forget their spoon for just one day, they may be 'converted' and are eliminated from the game. However, if you 'convert' or 'tag' YOUR target (your 'buddy', as the rules say), you score one point.

The person with the most points, NOT the last (wo)man standing, is the winner. Please scroll down if you need more information.

IF YOU HAVE PLAYED SPOON TAG BEFORE, PLEASE PASS YOUR KNOWLEDGE ONTO NEW MEMBERS.

MV Spoon Tag Guidelines

To be played from the starting date until we have the LAST
MAN STANDING (or woman).

ITEMS: Your only item is a spoon; plastic only and NOT chopped in pieces.

**AMENDMENT: Spoons MUST be visible at
ALL TIMES or they will not be recognized**

GOAL
: Every player will begin as a RED. Their goal will be to convert as many other REDs into BLUEs as possible using their item (spoon) to convert their assigned buddy.

BUDDY
: You will receive the name of your ONE (1) buddy via Facebook. YOU MUST BE OFFICIALLY ‘ATTENDING’ TO THE FACEBOOK EVENT BY THE GIVEN DATE (TBD) TO RECEIVE YOUR BUDDY. NO LATE ADDITIONS.

CONVERSIONS
: A conversion will occur upon the TOUCHING of the RED’s spoon onto the buddy’s person, in effect converting them to a
BLUE. Refrain from running, jumping, or other potentially harmful movements as non-combatants may be injured. Yelling, screaming, and other obstructions will also not be tolerated, and really don’t provide as much of an asset anyways. This includes any loose clothing article, although headwear doesn’t count. No indirect converts will be counted.

The newly-turned
BLUE will present their converter (the RED) with their spoon, who will contact the host via direct Facebook message to report the conversion as soon as possible. The RED will hereby take their buddy’s buddy, and so on until there is only one RED left. The number of conversions will be tallied and appropriate prizes of uncertain value awarded at the game's end.

*NOTE: A conversion MUST be reported within THREE (3) days, or else it will not be counted.

**CLARIFICATION: YOU HAVE AS MUCH TIME AS YOU WANT TO TRACK YOUR BUDDY, BUT ONCE THEY HAVE BEEN TAGGED YOU MUST REPORT WITHIN THREE DAYS.

***PLEASE REPORT BY REPLYING TO THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE WE SENT YOU WITH YOUR FIRST BUDDY. REFRAIN FROM CREATING NEW MESSAGES, AS THEY ARE HARD TO KEEP TRACK OF.

SAFE
-ZONES: Areas where no conversion may occur.

FAQs
1. Are there time limits?
There are NO time limits on how long it takes you to get your target. There's no 'YOU MUST GET YOUR TARGET WITHIN THREE DAYS OR YOUR OUT' restriction. You MUST, however, REPORT your eliminations within three days.

2. Spoons in pockets?
NO AND NO. Spoons must be VISIBLE.

3. Wait, can you win if you're still out?
YES. If your conversion count is high enough, you can still win if you get out. The last man standing is not necessarily the winner.

4. Will you be having late additions this year?
NO. We will not be 'adding' anyone this time. You MUST join by Tuesday October 13 at 17:00 or you will not be able to participate this round.

5. What about conversions in the Cafeteria?
YES. It's not an administrative building! You may convert in the Cafeteria, as long as it's not during a school event (i.e. club meeting).

6. What about conversions in the Black Box?
Nope. Sorry, the Black Box falls under the 'Classroom' area, because class is technically held there.

7. Are conversions allowed during a test session such as the PSAT?
Yes and no. Before the test is fine, and after the test is fine. But during the test, even during breaks, is not allowed (still 'testing time'). Also, if there is registration beforehand or setting up of a similar structure, tagging isn't allowed then either.

8. What about at DECA/FBLA study sessions?
As long as you're outdoors! Extracurriculars such as sports practices are safe-zones and you can't tag during these because it is unethical to spoon someone down when it would be impractical or impossible to hold a spoon.

If you're curious...

About how it works, or how it worked last time, we have the 2008-2009 Listing below. Next to the player name is the number of their conversions. You can also look to these people (although many have graduated) for guidance on how to play the game.

At the bottom is the Excel sheet used to record any and all Assassins processes during the Spring 2009 game. This is useful if you played last year and were wondering who was hunting you, or if you might be wondering how exactly we match you up. The actual matching is randomized, but beyond that there's a simple way to do it. It was a system developed over the weeks, since processing 140-something people wasn't easy.

Red List: Red people have been eliminated. Used for counting how many still standing.
Gray List: Gray have been eliminated. Contains more detail. Useful for assigning new targets and keeping track of how many conversions per person.
Listing: Every player's number of conversions, and at the top is the listing much like the one below.
Registration 1-2: Don't bother with those. It was difficult to register so many people with just one account, so if you're registering a great number of people consider opening up a new account or splitting up the work (among friends of course). Facebook settings are a bummer.
List:
Lists all players on the left column and on the right column is their first assigned target.

Since Assassins is currently being run by MV seniors, we'll be looking for fresh blood to run it next year. See if you like the game and are willing to spend a bit of time for the sake of a great school-wide game.
