Undead Awareness Club

Future Plans, kukuku

Coffee House So MV Published Writers and UAC are partnering up (no, not to form the "undead poet's society", but I've really been wanting to do that too...) to hold a special event. More info is to come, but we're planning a chill poetry/spoken word slam (see our "spoken word" page!) to finish off the year. Tryouts will be announced soon!

***If you think of possible events, E-MAIL THEM TO US. We're a member-based group, so if you have an idea about an event, we can put it into action. Just remember, if it's undead and abides by the school rules (yes, that includes Zero Tolerance), let's do it!***

2009-2010 Past Events

Costume Design Workshop: Wednesday October 21st in D107. Got questions about making masks, butterfly wings, or do you just need help brainstorming? Bring in all your neat Halloween costumes and we'll show you how to get started.

Here's the link to the Facebook Event for more information. There are more Halloween links under the "Links" page in the sidebar.

Spoken Word Workshop: See the event page and "Spoken Word" tab for more information. Held Friday, November 13th. Lunch, D107.

We provided handouts to get people started with the brainstorming process, and brought in costume examples to work with attendees to help them with their costume-making needs. A great custom costume is well worth the effort and doesn't take too much money if you have the planning skills and the elbow grease!

Workshop held by our club to teach the school about an innovative form of speech. Very similar to poetry, spoken word was introduced last year by us and taught by members of the Stanford Spoken Word Collective and has been continued into the current school year. The Collective competes in spoken word competition, and we've made great friends with them!

Vampire Forum Hmm...how much do YOU know about vampires? Debate, discuss, and converse in our vampire forum. We have timed this event after the release of New Moon, so we'll have plenty to discuss. Or we could keep away from Twilight entirely. Whatever you'd like! Held November 24th, Lunch D107. More vampire links on the pdf under the "Links" section.

Assassins/Spoon Tag Fall 2009 We kicked off our year with an event open to everyone on the campus: Assassins! Over 50 Monta Vista students participated in the game, which was lower than last time so we're ready to ramp it up for next Spring! See the "Assassins" tab for more information about this exciting event.

Zombie Tag Those who have not enjoyed zombie tag hath not lived. And as for the physical component, zombies don't run PER SE. It's more like a limp-while-limbs-are-deteriorating. In any case, we'll be meeting on a big ol' field (probably the Lower Field at MV) to play some old school zombie tag. See the page for more info.

Invisible Children Book Sale (March 30) Lots of books left over from the drive that Invisible Children didn't want directly. 25 cents each! All profits will go to Anaka Secondary School in Northern Uganda. 80% Anaka students come from nearby internally displaced camps, and profits go to building a library for their school. We're connected through IC's "Schools for Schools" program, so represent our school with your purchases! And check out the progress. Read all about Anaka and the other schools here.

MV Spoon Tag/Assassins Spring 2010 Biannual school-wide spoon-based game. Until the end of second semester. See the 'Assassins' page (left hand side) for more information. Join our Facebook group to get future updates. The event started February 22nd (Here's the Facebook event page)

2008-2009 Past Events

1) Nosferatu: We kicked off our 2008 club membership with a film called Nosferatu. Based off of Bram Stoker's Dracula, this classic black-and-white was able to gain quite an audience off of its popularity.

2) Twilight Forum: The craze that swept the nation: Twilight. We decided to host a special event for this book to discuss the series, movies, and other topics. Whether you're a fan or a hater, Twilight has made an impact on many a reader.

3) Spoken Word Workshop: Ever heard of spoken word? Well, it's a special type of performance that combines speech with anything from poetry to folk-tale. It can be comedic, romantic, or even action-packed, but spoken word is a truly unique sort of activity. It's not something so easily explained as it is heard.

4) Invisible Children Documentary Showing: Learn how you can help the never-ending African war and the many children affected by it! Only 35 minutes of your time, and after the viewing we'll hopefully be hosting a book drive and/or video game night to support these kids.
SEE THE 'INVISIBLE CHILDREN' TAB IN THE SIDEBAR FOR MORE INFO!

5) MV Spoon Tag/Assassins Spring 2009: Hope you liked last year's event! With over 140 kids registered, it was an amazing experience (especially for me, who had to organize it...). We're moving forward with twice the fury this year, so join our Facebook Group!
